Hi, my name is Ryan Spiecha and I am 17 yrs old. I was born in Anderson S.C. but now live in Fayetteville GA. since I was about 4yrs old. I am a senior at Starrs Mill High School where I play football and throw for the track team.

Do you compete equipped (squat suit, bench press shirt & deadlift suit) or unequipped (no suits) or both and what weight class(s) and divisions(s) do you compete in?I compete raw and currently am a sub jr t2 @ the 120kg weight class

What was your last competition and how did you do?

The 2015 Raw Nationals in Scranton PA and placed first

When was your first competition?

USAPL 2013 Georgia and Southern States BP & Powerlifting Championships

How did you improve from your first competition to your most recent?

Squat 475 Bench 300 dead lift 500 total 1275

What is your next competition?

IPF Worlds in Killeen TX

What do you plan on doing differently for that meet if anything?

Nothing different, just have a goal of breaking the squat, dead lift and total weight world records

Where are you located in Georgia and where do you train at?

I live in Fayetteville GA and train with Jared Bidne @ Explosive Mechanics

What are your hobbies (other than powerlifting)

Football , Track, and hanging with my friends

Who is your role model and why?

My parents because they support me in everything I do.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I like cute animal videos

Is there anything about powerlifting you would like to change or wish was different?

Change Wilkes score calculation and make it a collegiate recognized sport

What is your occupation? Does it interfere with competing or visa versa?

I am a high school student

How did you get into powerlifting and how many years have you been competing?

Started training at Explosive 3 years ago and learned they had a team and joined for the challenge

Are you involved in powerlifting in any way besides as a competitor?

No

What are your biggest squat, bench press, deadlift and total numbers? And how do your best training numbers compare to your best competition numbers? Currently 580 squat, 352 bench, 584 dead lift, for a total of 1516 lbs. My training numbers in squat are in the 625 range and bench and dead are similar to my best competition numbers

What advice would you give a new lifter just starting out?

Have proper instruction

What are your short term goals now as a lifter?

Prepare for Worlds

What are some long term goals you would like to achieve?

My long term goals will revolve around college and my football and track career. I would like to continue powerlifting competitively but will depend on college restrictions

Ray Williams

Can you describe your training philosophy and/or a typical training session?

That’s the beauty of having a great trainer, I really don’t have to think hard about it because I trust and follow my trainer’s direction and so far that has worked very well for me

What is your favorite lift, squat or bench press or deadlift or all three and why?

Most definitely squat

Who is the most impressive lifter you have competed against?Isaac Maldonado of Australia

Do you have any rivals in powerlifting?

Isaac is moving up out of my age class but I would say him. It’s a healthy rivalry because we encourage each other and that’s a good thing

If we're sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it's been for you, what would be the reason?

I reached all my goals at Worlds in June
